Joe Biden vowed to immediately revoke the Keystone XL Pipeline permit upon assuming office in a move that will scuttle thousands of good-paying jobs, increase gas prices, and hand rival nations such as Russia and Venezuela increased crude oil market share.
As Canadian officials try to negotiate with Biden to keep the zero-emissions pipeline on track, wide-reaching U.S. environmental groups and media outlets are calling the move “foolish.”
“Doing so would kill jobs on both sides of the border, weaken the critically important Canada-U.S. relationship, and undermine U.S. national security by making the United States more dependent on OPEC oil imports in the future,” Alberta Premier Jason Kenney reportedly said.
“The Keystone XL pipeline also represents tens of thousands of good-paying jobs that the American economy needs right now. That is why major American labor unions who supported President-elect Biden’s campaign strongly back the project, as do First Nations who have signed partnership agreements, and all state governments along the pipeline route.”
Critics fail to understand that Biden and the Democrats’ pathway to power calls for making everyday people dependent on government support. Nixing the pipeline is just the first of many attacks to come on unemployment security and energy independence.
The Keystone XL Pipeline emerged as a false image of the sustainable energy movement against big oil and fossil fuels during the Obama years. Rather than put forward fact-based information about the pipeline’s environmental value, Obama took advantage of fake news reports that positioned oil transportation as an existential threat.
The true facts are that the Keystone project only makes existing pipeline transmission more efficient. It would largely eliminate the need to put oil on 18-wheelers that generate carbon emissions. Scuttling the pipeline meets the very definition of “liberal idiot.”
And Biden and Kamala Harris know full well that this zero-emissions pipeline represents a net-gain for lowering carbon emissions and a competitive advantage over OPEC, Russia, and Venezuela. TC Energy Corporation, the company building the 1,200-mile pipeline that would transport upwards of 830,000 barrels daily, recently released a statement indicating it would achieve “net zero emissions across the project operations” by 2023 and “be fully powered by renewable energy sources” by 2030. Those projections outpace the Paris Climate Accord that Biden plans to drag the country back into.
“In our view, this is the most sustainable and environmentally friendly pipeline project that has ever been built,” TC Energy president Richard Prior reportedly said. “This is groundbreaking stuff for an energy infrastructure project of the size and scale of Keystone XL.”
But what makes it problematic for Democrats is that it helps lower gas prices at the pump, home heating oil costs and delivers 11,000 good-paying jobs, 8,000 of which are unionized. That may not seem like many jobs, but the peripheral damage and dependency it causes working Americans makes axing it a priority. Knowing the fake news media will support the move with positive headlines will be frosting on the cake for Washington elites.
But everyday people should be forewarned that scuttling a green-friendly job-creator such as the Keystone XL is just the first attack of many to come. According to reports, Biden plans to address the massive job losses caused by the pandemic by spending upwards of $2 trillion in debt-spending on so-called green infrastructure. His goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 would result in millions of American job losses.
