When I was younger and much more naïve, I used to think that my old political mentor was exaggerating when he talked about politics here in the USA. He was an old Navy riverboat captain and would often declare that combat in Vietnam was easier than politics in America. “At least the commies over there were honest enough to just shoot at you,” he’d declare. The older I get, the more I realize that he was correct. The Democrat Party is now an openly communist entity. They want to treat you and your family the same way that Pol Pot, Mao and Stalin treated their political enemies. Get a load of this story.
A professional American cyclist has been suspended from his team, for tweeting just three words (in two separate Twitter messages) and an image of an American flag. I follow professional cycling about as closely as most people, which is to say – not much at all. So, I had to do a bit of research to even talk about this story.
One of the teams on the pro cycling circuit is called Trek-Segafredo. The team is registered professionally and jointly in Luxembourg and America. They ride in races like the Tour de France and others, primarily in Europe. The youngest rider on the team (and one of the fastest) is a 19-year-old American named Quinn Simmons.
A Dutch journalist named Jose Been threw down a gauntlet this week. (Jose Been’s pronouns are “she”/ “her,” so I assume that Jose is the Dutch equivalent of “Josie” – but don’t quote me on that.)
Ms. Been announced her virtue to the world by declaring that the rose- and lavender-scented flatulence emitting in 140-character bursts from her Twitter keyboard were such a gift to the world, that all Trump supporters on the globe should immediately cease and desist from following her. Quinn Simmons of Trek-Segafredo took her up on that offer, tweeting the word, “Bye!”
That single word from Quinn Simmons triggered the witch-sniffing abilities of the Twitter rage mob. One Twitter observer floated his suspicions that Quinn Simmons is a “Trumper.”
Quinn responded to that individual with the words, “That’s right” and an image of the American flag.
And… he’s fired. Well, “suspended indefinitely,” but we all know it really means he’s fired.
Just to be clear about that whole chain of events:
An American cyclist on an American-owned cycling team expressed support for the American president of America while talking to foreigners… and he just got fired.
It’s not like Quinn Simmons is a slouch on the 28-member Trek-Segafredo team. His Wikipedia page notes that Quinn Simmons won 10 first-place finishes in 2018 and 2019. But to the corporate fascists that own Trek-Segafredo, it’s more important to oppose Donald Trump than it is to do the one thing that a professional cycling team is supposed to do: win races.
In a not-unrelated incident, the former CEO of Twitter – a guy named Dick Costolo – sent out a message this recently, declaring that any corporate leaders in America who reject the “woke” politics of Black Lives Matter, “Are going to be the first people lined up against the wall and shot in the revolution. I’ll happily provide video commentary.”
One of the most talented young professional cyclists in the world is out of a job for tweeting three words of support for the president – not even controversial words. It also sends a clear message to everyone else: Don’t step out of line. If it can happen to Quinn Simmons, it can happen to you, too. You wouldn’t want to get lined up along the wall with the rest of those deplorables, would you?
Is everyone clear on what the new rules are now? Any questions on what to do on Election Day?
