How much do you know about Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota? Even if you live under a rock, you probably know that she immigrated to the U.S. as a refugee of Somalia when she was a child. You probably also know that she’s a raging anti-Semite and sympathizes with jihadists.
You may also have heard that she once married her own brother. That last bit of knowledge is now the subject of a formal FBI investigation. Omar is in some serious hot water.
Rumors surrounding Omar’s illegal marriages have circulated for over a year. You may have heard by now that she is accused of marrying her brother in order to help him immigrate to the United States. So far, that is unproven.
Unlike mainstream media, we can hold true to the principles of due process and call these allegations until unequivocal proof arises.
As bad as marrying her brother would be, that particular part of the story is actually less important right now. What really matters is that Omar’s ex-husband’s identity is irrelevant to the allegations currently being levelled against her. As journalists looked into the idea that she married her own brother, they found substantial evidence that she committed a number of felonies.
The evidence is substantial enough that the FBI is formally investigating the Representative. Considering her political status, we can assume that the FBI wouldn’t look into this frivolously. This isn’t the Obama justice department, after all.
The list of crimes being investigated includes immigration fraud, tax fraud, federal student loan fraud, perjury and marriage fraud. That’s quite a list, and the allegations suggest that some of these fraud cases persisted for up to eight years. If the DNC can’t shield another of their own from justice, this could turn into serious jail time for Omar.
Reports have emerged that the FBI is collaborating with ICE and other federal agencies to fully investigate all of the allegations. Even the Department of Education is linked (with the IG of Ed helping to see if student loan fraud did in fact happen). There is even a case for bigamy.
What you’ll notice is that all of these crimes can be fully investigated without involving testimony (or a DNA test) from Ahmed Nur Said Elmi (her alleged brother). These crimes can conceivably be proven without extraditing Elmi from the UK, and the culmination of them could lead to a conviction that leaves Omar in prison for decades.
Now, at this point, it’s a formal investigation. Some will say that the FBI doesn’t take up formal investigations until they’re sure it’s worth their time, but that’s speculative. Omar hasn’t been convicted of anything, and because charges have not yet been brought, there’s plenty of opportunity for Democrats in power to try and obstruct this thing to protect her.
There are two big questions we’ll have to ask as the investigation unfolds. Will the Democrats protect their own? Regardless, will Omar ever really face justice? We’ve seen too many politicians get away with far too much over the years. It would be great if Omar was the case that righted the course.
