Why Are Military Bases Gun Free?

Left-wing media has been pretty quiet on a few recent mass shootings. You know why; none of the events were perpetuated by white males. Instead, we had an anti-Semitic attack by Black Hebrews and an Islamic terrorist attack on a naval base. Who would possibly want to know about these incidents?

The Pensacola Naval Base Shooting

If you have followed either shooting, you might have some questions about Florida in particular. You might think that it would be harder to commit terrorism on one of our bases. The reason that isn’t the case is astonishing, in all of the worst ways.

Since the media isn’t covering this terrorist attack, let me remind you of the details. A Saudi Islamic terrorist was training with our military at a naval base in Pensacola. He plotted his attack for months, and when he finally made his move, he killed three brave Americans who attended the Naval training facility. Ultimately, the scumbag terrorist was taken down by Pensacola deputy sheriffs.

Stick with this for a moment. A terrorist perpetrated a mass shooting on one of our military bases, and local law enforcement had to save the day. By all means, we need to celebrate the deputy sheriffs who performed courageously, but this situation should not exist. It is completely unacceptable that our soldiers and sailors are denied their basic right to self-defense.

So Why Are Bases Gun Free?

Technically, there are a lot of guns on any military base. Similarly, there are plenty of guns in any given town. Between guns in homes and guns with law enforcement, the population isn’t unarmed. The problem is that not enough people carry, and on military bases, most people are prohibited from carrying.

There are exceptions, but for the most part, every personally owned gun on a base has to be stored in specially designated spaces. Our men and women in the service can’t even keep a firearm in their base housing.

In 2016, the Pentagon ruled that carry laws can be left to each base commander. So, why do most of them prohibit self-defense? It all comes down to politics. From day one, President Trump has made promises to get rid of the gun-free policies of our military bases. Unfortunately, he’s been met with staunch resistance from a number of higher ups within the military.

In most cases, these are men who have been in positions of power for a long time, and a lot of them found they could gain favor in the previous administration with a little virtue signaling.

Let’s spell this out in no uncertain terms. Men and women in our military are dying on domestic bases so commanders can cater to the liberal narrative. That’s the whole story. There is no prevailing evidence that suggests people on base can’t be trusted with firearms. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Before most bases went gun free in the early 90s, there were no problems with mass shootings or terrorism on military ground.

This has to stop. We do not sacrifice our brave service men and women for pandering and stupid politics. Let Mr. Trump know exactly how you feel about this. He has fought for us before, and he’ll do it again — as soon as we force him to make it a priority. No more dead heroes.
