Comey Under Investigation for Misleading Trump While Targeting Him in FBI Probe

Former Director of the FBI James Comey is about to have to answer for his part in setting President Trump up for what many hoped would bring down his presidency.

Comey has repeatedly said in interviews and in his recent book that he never told President Trump he wasn’t the target of an ongoing FBI probe. Now, it seems there is credible proof that he has been lying all along.

Real Clear Investigation’s Paul Sperry reports that Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz has finished his investigation and is in the process of writing his final report. The report is supposedly going to detail how Comey intentionally misled his boss, the President of the United States.

Sperry wrote, “Even as he repeatedly assured Trump that he was not a target, the former director was trying to build a conspiracy case against the president, while acting as an investigative agent.”

Two US officials who are familiar with Horowitz’s investigation say Comey “essentially [was] running a covert operation” against Trump. That action began with a private “defensive briefing” Comey gave Trump shortly after the inauguration.

Those sources say that Horowitz has spent many hours going over text messages between the FBI’s former top leadership. Those texts suggest that Comey was conducting a “counterintelligence assessment” following reports Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner, both involved in the Trump presidential campaign, met with a Russian lawyer in the now infamous Trump Towers meeting in January 2017.

Comey also placed an FBI agent in the White House tasked with reporting activities of Trump and his aides. Again, Sperry reports: “The agent, Anthony Ferrante, who specialized in cyber-crime, left the White House around the same time Comey was fired and soon joined a security consulting firm, where he contracted with BuzzFeed to lead the news site’s efforts to verify the Steele dossier, in connection with a defamation lawsuit.”

Horowitz and his team conducted more than 100 interviews and examined over 1 million documents. His interviews included sit-downs with Comey and other former FBI and DOJ employees.

The period covering Comey’s activities is believed to cover from early January 2017 to May 2017 when Trump fired the former Director. It was at that point that Andrew McCabe, his deputy, formally opened a full-on counterintelligence and obstruction investigations of President Trump.

McCabe’s deputy, Lisa Page, met in closed-door testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on May 2017 where she was asked if Comey and other FBI officials discussed opening an obstruction case against Trump. She said under oath: “Obstruction of justice was not a topic of conversation during the time frame you have described.”

After a brief discussion with her lawyers, Page recanted saying, “I need to take back my prior statement.” She then conceded there may have been at least “discussions about potential criminal activity” involving the president.

At the heart of Horowitz’ report is the revelation that Comey was not a lone ranger in the attempted takedown of President Trump. Comey met with President-Elect Donald Trump one day after he met with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in the Oval Office and supposedly discussed how to brief the President Elect Trump. Also in that meeting were a host of other Obama administration officials including National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and National Intelligence Director James Clapper.

More proof Comey lied to Trump comes from his own mouth. Comey wrote in his book “A Higher Loyalty” that he repeatedly told President Trump he was NOT the focus of any investigation and that he was not keeping any kind of counterintelligence file on him. But that was statement was misleading at best.

While an investigation of Comey’s files didn’t reveal any intelligence report under Trump’s name, that’s not because there wasn’t one. Comey intentionally didn’t want Trump’s name on a formal file because they hoped surveillance would incidentally offer something to make a case against him.

House Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Devin Nunes (Rep-CA) believes Comey and other senior FBI leaders including Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page were attempting to fuel a silent coup. Nunes said in an interview, “the FBI director [was] spying on the president, taking notes [and] illegally leaking those notes of classified information” to the MSM.”

Whatever comes next, it looks like James Comey is about to pay the piper for his part in this grand deception.
