The radical Muslim extremists running Iran recently got a wake-up tweet from Pres. Donald J. Trump. It said “NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE.”
Those words come on the heels of Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani making threats toward the United States. In stark contrast to the previous Obama Administration, Pres. Trump says he will not stand idly by as foreign heads of state threaten the American people.
“He is going to stand up and make sure that we are protecting Americans and certainly protect the world from nuclear proliferation,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders recently said. “It’s something he takes seriously and is he going to continue to be tough on this topic.”
The president’s remarks were in response to an Iran that has once again been slapped with tough sanctions after Pres. Trump nixed the one-sided deal made by Obama. Rouhani, who won a questionable election, took aim at the United States with another anti-American speech.
“Mr. Trump, don’t play with the lion’s tail, this would only lead to regret . . . America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars,” the leader of the Islamic republic said to a roomful of diplomats.
Iran has come under increased scrutiny since America’s primary ally in the region, Israel, provided a trove of documentation that the rogue regime has been secretly advancing its nuclear program. Iran took upwards of $150 billion in cold hard American cash from the Obama Administration and promised to end its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Under Obama and former Secretary of State John Kerry, Iran also enjoyed normalized international relations despite funding acts of terrorism and promoting anti-Western hatred to school-aged children. For the Trump Administration, this simply will not stand.
“You can be rest assured he takes this process extremely seriously,” press secretary Sanders reportedly said. “He is monitoring and watching the actions of Iran, and if needed, he will take what steps are necessary to protect people in this country and certainly to protect the world from nuclear proliferation.”
Iran has been a long-time enemy of the United States and prone to empty rhetoric. But in recent years, the radical extremists who set the tone in the Muslim country have moved from words to actions. That shift was prompted by the failed leadership of ex-Pres. Obama who apologized, bowed and groveled before foreign leaders.
Obama, showing weakness from an American president for the first time in the nation’s history, invited aggression. Obama was roundly criticized for bowing to lessor country’s leaders such as the king of Saudi Arabia. Then-First Lady Michele Obama adorned the headdress, a sign of submission by Muslim women. At the end of Obama’s world apology tour, America appeared on the defensive, weak. Iran pounced on Obama’s backseat foreign policy and began agitating U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf.
In an act unimaginable before the Democrat was elevated to the Oval Office, Iran took American sailors prisoners with impunity. There were no repercussions, only a contrite Obama Administration on display for all the world to say America is weak.
The National Review perhaps highlighted Iran’s act of hostage-taking best with an analogy to the Roman empire.
“Two thousand years ago, a Roman could wander the known world confident that he would be unmolested by local unruly elements, protected only by the statement “Civis romanus sum,” I am a Roman citizen. His confidence stemmed from a demonstrated assurance that any group that dared attack a Roman would trigger a response in the form of a Roman legion, which would deal swift and brutal justice.
Juxtapose this image of a previous world-spanning hegemon with the image of ten American Sailors kneeling on the deck of their own vessel with their hands clasped together over their heads. It is an image of indignity and failure that is accompanied by the smell of rotting power,” The National Review stated in 2016.
To say that Pres. Trump has made a 180-degree turn in American domestic and foreign policy would be something of an understatement.
North Korea’s Kim Jong Un tested American resolve and was met with a stunning response. Pres. Trump moved warships into the region and enlisted the skills of Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to put North Korea in an economic stranglehold.
The Trump Administration brought world rivals, China and Russia, into the fold to tow American foreign policy interests. North Korea buckled under the weight of Pres. Trump’s power play.
Prisoners from the Obama-era have been returned. The remains of fallen soldiers sent home to families and war has been averted. America never even fired a shot and the Communist country has already begun dismantling its nuclear program based on a handshake.
“This is a president who is going to stand up and make sure he is doing what is necessary,” Sanders reportedly said. “He is showing peace through strength. But, if needed, and steps are required, this president is not afraid to take them.”
There’s little doubt that Iranian leaders watched the North Korean saga unfold and are losing sleep after the recent tweet storm. America has a president that will not tolerate disrespect.
