Who else is sick of this immigration nonsense? It’s all been one giant exercise in liberal doublethink and hypocrisy. Despite that, Trump was handed a mess and he’s taking measures to fix it.
But, here’s the real catch. Trump wasn’t just enforcing existing law. He actually left immigration policy unchanged from his predecessor. The only difference between the two was whether or not ICE and Border Patrol were actually allowed to do their jobs.
As soon as that happened, the media firestorm began. What we’re going to show you today is that this was very much Obama’s fault, and he did it strategically.
The NBC Report
Before we get into this, remember that it comes from NBC. This is the same company that hosts Rachel Maddow. It’s also important to understand that the original document had the expected anti-Trump spin. They even titled it as being Trump’s fault that families were separated.
But, somewhere, deep in the article, they forgot to omit the most important fact in the whole piece. Family separation policy began in October of 2016. You might notice that this is before Trump was inaugurated. It was even before he won the election. When this practice started, it was still assumed by everyone involved that Hillary Clinton was going to be our next president.
The timing makes a fair amount of sense. It was in 2015 that the 9th Circuit forced Obama to redo his immigration policy. As you might expect, things moved slowly. By the time they had a plan in place, it was getting close to election season. Why not wait and make this the next President’s problem? We’ll get into that more in a minute, but before we do, we should discuss the numbers.
NBC uncovered Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports on child separation from October 2016 to February 2017. That means that at most, Trump was acting president for less than two full weeks of the covered report. In that time, more than 1700 kids were separated from their parents. Since that report, a total of somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 kids have been separated.
Obama successfully split up more families in four months than Trump did in a whole year. Somehow, this was a completely unknown practice though. Instead, Trump is blamed.
Before we put Obama to the fire, let’s admit some fair points. His original plan was to not separate families. Instead, they were incarcerated with their parents. It was the judicial branch that forced a policy change.
So, Obama, being the dictator he always strived to be, simply decided to enforce the law as little as possible to not have to deal with the situation. If you don’t prosecute criminals, then you don’t have to worry about fallout from those prosecutions.
The thing in all of this mess is that Obama did deliberately change policy in October of his last year. He knew that if it became well known, people wouldn’t like it. The one common ground in all of this is that separating children from their parents isn’t ideal.
Not committing crimes in the first place is the true ideal, but apparently that’s too much to ask.
The real question is whether he was setting up Hillary or Trump. In reality, the answer is both. He knew a lot more than he ever admitted about Hillary’s FBI investigation, and he was aware that it could tilt the election. He probably figured that regardless of the outcome, he could easily make the next president look worse than himself, which is the most important thing to him.
The most frustrating part of all of this is that he did and still does get a free pass. Trump is still eating the blame for the crime of actually doing his job. He enforced a policy put in place by Obama because of a ruling by liberal courts.
How does that make him the enemy?! And, despite all of this, he’s the one cleaning up the mess. But still, he will be vilified and Obama glorified. It’s the same old disgusting hypocrisy from the left. They live for it.
Fortunately for the good guys, this story has a chance for a happy ending. Like so many of Obama’s other broken policies, Trump can right much of this by himself. He also gets to set the Supreme Court right after decades of abandoning justice to push a leftist agenda.
Most importantly, he’s forcing this issue to the one place it actually belongs: Congress. If they can get their act together and put an immigration bill through the House, Senate Democrats will hang themselves right before the midterm elections.
There’s a lot of opportunity here; we just need Congress to do one useful thing this year. That’s par for their course, so it might not be too much to ask.
