Last week it was confirmed that special counsel Robert Mueller told President Trump’s legal team that he is not a “target” but rather a “subject” in his investigation many thought that settled the matter and that President Trump’s name has been cleared.
Considering most in mainstream media are obsessed with a predetermined false conclusion, the battle is far over.
President Trump and several commentators quickly responded to the Post report saying it is great news and should lay the matter to rest. John Podhoretz of Commentary wrote:
“Mueller has been at this now for nine months with an aggressive staff. He has issued indictments of various figures and might be going after others. So telling Trump that he’s not a target is a very big deal … This story could very well be game over for everyone who has hoped … that the Mueller probe was going … surgically remove Trump from the presidency.”
Andrew Prokop of progressive-leaning VOX saw things differently saying that if anyone on Trump’s team told the President that being named a subject as opposed to a target means he is in the clear were are “a bit … too hasty.”
Prokop went on to interpret Trump’s response as fear and denial. “If this news was so good for Trump, why did he start attacking Mueller much more aggressively after he got it back in early March?” said Prokop.
Obviously, Prokop and the rest of the talking heads in Washington don’t know Donald Trump very well. Trump is a fighter and that is one the reasons he was elected. Attack him and he attacks back. Remember the primaries?
This is where Occam’s Razor should be applied. When more than one explanation exists for an occurrence, the simplest is the most likely. In the case of Mueller’s investigation, after a year of not one finding anything remotely tied to collusion or Trump, the simplest conclusion is that he has nothing.
Jonathan Turley professor of law at the George Washington University Law School notes that “Many journalists and analysts seem incapable of accepting signs that the Trump presidency could survive.” Turley said:
“After a year of being assured that ‘bombshell developments’ and ‘smoking gun’ evidence was sealing the criminal case against Trump, the dissonance was too great for many who refuse to accept the obvious meaning of this disclosure.”
So what is the difference in being named a subject but not a target in an investigation?
Prosecutors view someone as a subject when they have engaged in conduct that is under investigation but sufficient evidence could not be found to bring charges. A “subject” of an investigation is a person whose conduct is within the scope of the grand jury’s investigation but has been found directly linked to a crime.
A target, which Mueller ruled out in Trump’s case, is someone the prosecutor or grand jury has uncovered substantial evidence that links that person to the commission of a crime.
One of the reasons Mueller may have taken so long to offer any kind of report is because of the way this whole investigation started in the first place. It was revealed last week that if there was any collusion it occurred among those who wrote the narrative that gave birth to the investigation
C. Mitchell Shaw of The New American has reported extensively on how text messages between FBI agents that leaked last week show how the Obama White House, CIA, FBI, House, DOJ, and former Democrat Senator Harry Reid worked together secretly to bring about and shape the investigation.
After over nine months of intense scrutiny, Mueller has found nothing of substance against the President. The “secret society” in the highest ranks of the Deep State had one purpose in mind – to delegitimize the Trump presidency.
Turley is certain that Mueller’s memo a “positive development for Trump.
He also warns, “It shows that Trump’s status has not materially changed but neither has the status of much of the coverage. If anyone is expecting the mainstream media to see this they should think again. … Many media commentators clearly are stuck on denial and are a long way from acceptance in dealing with the legal status of Donald Trump.”
