Let’s take a short break from gun debates, shall we? Educating liberals is exhausting. Other news looks much the same as it did before the Florida shooting. Liberal lawmakers are continuing to fall, one by one, to the retribution against their sexual misconduct. This brings us to Colorado. What could be an average story of another dirty Democrat falling to disgrace took a few bizarre turns.
Who Is Steve Lebsock?
Lebsock is a long-time Democrat who served in various levels of state and local government in Colorado. He was on the Thornton City Council from 2003 to 2011. After that, he rose to sit on the Colorado State House of Representatives. He served there from 2013 until earlier this month. It’s not the most storied political career, but there’s no doubt he’s been in politics for a chunk of time.
It wasn’t until 2016 that the current drama began to unfold. You see, it was then that a fellow legislator, Faith Winter, accused him of sexual harassment. Things got as ugly as you might expect, and as of last November there were close to a dozen separate accusers.Tons of other representatives, along with the governor and lieutenant governor, called for Lebsock’s resignation. He adamantly denied all of the allegations to the end and refused to resign. On March 2, the House took a vote and chose to expel him. It needed 44 to pass, and the final tally was 52 to 9.
This marked only the second time the Colorado House had ever expelled a Representative. The previous instance was over a hundred years ago. Of the nine who voted in favor of Lebsock, the consensus was that the proceedings went too fast and didn’t offer proper due process. None went on record saying anything favorable about the disgraced politician.
So far, this is pretty run of the mill for state-level politics. We get a story of disgraced politicians every few months. What makes Lebsock special was his final act as a Representative. After he heard the vote and knew his fate, he changed his party affiliation. He has campaigned and served as a Democrat for 15 years, but at the end of his career, he formally became a Republican.
This is exactly as big a can of worms as it seems. Liberals have jumped on the story as a chance to accuse Republicans of sexual harassment. They’ve certainly had to endure enough embarrassment from their own base over the last year. A Huffington Post article talks about the GOP “embracing” Lebsock. The Denver Post has had similar things to say.
The silver lining to this move is that the GOP gets to appoint Lebsock’s replacement. Because of this, no one is really certain of his motivation. He may have given the pick to Republicans to spite is own party. He may have done it to pass the stain of his sullied career on to his political rivals. It’s hard to say, and ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. Liberal spin pieces will use any dishonesty they can find to attack conservatives. At least Colorado gets to improve their legislature a little in this instance.
Whether he intended to or not, Lebsock has opened the door for an entirely new low level of political attack. If the last six months have been any indicator, we can expect plenty more Democrats across the nation to fall to sexual misconduct.
The question is, how many of them will learn from Lebsock and try to suicide bomb the GOP? The liberal media is certainly primed to try and flip these narratives. All they need is a few martyrs and they’ll be ready to paint Republicans as the party of sex offense. The irony of it all will be completely lost on them.
The lessons to take away from all of this are simple. First, Lebsock is a bad political bet. Don’t expect his State Treasurer run to go well. Second, we have to continue to scrutinize everything that comes from mainstream media. This is nothing new, but we’re now aware of one more ridiculous spin that they’re going to throw around. The next time you hear about a disgraced Republican, check and see how long they’ve carried that affiliation.
